The round table entitled ‘The impact of global challenges on the implementation of the EU policy toward the Eastern Partnership countries’ was held in Chernivtsi on May 14, 2021.

The round table entitled ‘The impact of global challenges on the implementation of the EU policy toward the Eastern Partnership countries’ was held in Chernivtsi on May 14, 2021. The event took place in a hybrid format – both offline and online – and was jointly organized by Yurii Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University, NGO ‘Quadrivium’ and Communication Department at Chernivtsi Regional State Administration as a part of a series of events organized within the ENACTED project ‘The European Union and its neighbours. Network for enhancing EU participation on the eastern borders’ (2017-2625).

Representatives of academia, local authorities, civic society and expert community participated in the discussion, including those from the ENACTED partners and other institutions (mainly, Yurii Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University, Odesa I.I. Mechnikov National University, Chernivtsi Regional State Administration, Chernivtsi City Hall, NGO ‘Quadrivium’ and NGO ‘Promotion of Intercultural Cooperation’, Foreign Policy Council ‘Ukrainian Prism’, Institute for Political and Geopolitical Research, Ukrainian National Platform of the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum, etc.).

The discussion was focused on how various challenges influence the EU’s foreign policy toward the EaP, on the one hand, and how these challenges are reflected in the national milieu of the EU’s neighbouring countries, on the other hand. The main challenges identified so far concerned Russian aggression in the region and disinformation, changes of personalities among the world leadership, COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, different scenarios for EaP development were also discussed considering the current trends of the EaP countries’ relations with the European Union and the inner dynamics within the EU itself.
