During one week thirty participants of Winter school from 14 regions of Ukraine were debating how values of the United Europe correlate with values of the Ukrainian society.
One of the main objective of the Winter school “The Values of the United Europe and the Ukrainian Society: Problems of Correlation and Mechanisms of Transition” organized by Quadrivium is to enhance integration between the youth from all the regions of Ukraine in order to consolidate the Ukrainian nation and to implement the European values into the Ukrainian social and political realities. During one week thirty participants of Winter school from 14 regions of Ukraine were debating how values of the United Europe correlate with values of the Ukrainian society.
Experienced speakers both from Ukraine and abroad were presenting their vision of the nature of European values, possible ways of their classification, understanding of Europe and challenges Europe is currently facing. The fundamental aspects of value oriented developments of Europe were presented by professor of the Department of Political Science at National University of „Kyiv-Mohyla Academy” Oleksiy Garan, journalist and writer Volodymyr Fedorin, assistant professor of the Department of Political Science at National University of ,,Kyiv-Mohyla Academy” Inna Sovsun, assistant professor at the Center for European Studies at Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iasi Teodor Moga, associate professor of the Department of Criminal Law and Criminology at Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University Serhii Nezhurbida, editor-in-chief of New Eastern Europe Adam Reichardt, head of the department of the political system development at National Institute of Strategic Research Petro Burkovsky, advisor to Directorate of the National Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of Ukraine Oleksii Poltorakov, head of Chernivtsi Ukrainian-German Cultural Society at ,,Gedankendach Center” Oksana Matiichuk, associate professor of the Department of Theoretical and Practical Philosophy at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv Andrii Baumeister, associate professor of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute Yevhen Mahda, president of Agency „Brandhouse” Tetiana Zhdanova. The participants of the school also attended a meeting with the Mayor of Chernivtsi Oleksiy Kaspruk with whom they shared an active discussion on peculiarities of urban development and city government.
Illia Laptiev, Dnipro:
“What is the main aim of this School? To provide academic knowledge of the general system of European values? As for me, such formulation is not entirely accurate and complete as European values are fundamental, understandable and so vitally significant for each Ukrainian. I think the idea here is much more global – to train new leaders who will be able to compete with those who are “on the top” trying by all means to preserve an old system. The question is not whether Ukraine will become truly open democratic European state, but rather how quickly this will happen”.
Khrystya Havryliuk, Chernivtsi:
“Collective value system of our country depends on the individual value system of each of us, therefore participants of such schools are not just opinion leaders, they are the leaders of values. The only way to move to a new high-quality level of society is to put covered problems on the agenda, those which do not allow us to be Europe, themes which are inconvenient and unpleasant for discussion. Only via communication and education, via schools like this in particular, development towards the European values is possible”
Artem Burtak, Kyiv:
“It is a qualitative result with strong reflections, deep discussions, which became a perfect platform for debating even completely opposite views. A significant achievement is in consolidation of proactive young people and mainly in comprehension of the idea that we are building Ukraine for ourselves, not for reporting to Europe…”
The information of the further development of the project will be updated on the website.
