The ongoing reality of the Coronavirus pandemic has necessitated a rethinking of the 2020 International Neighbourhood Symposium (INS) that this year has celebrated its 10th anniversary. Originally planned to be held in Istanbul in June 2020 by Quadrivium and its partners, the Center for International and European Studies (CIES) and the NGO “Promotion of Intercultural Cooperation” (PIC), the Symposium had been later rescheduled and reformatted. Although it took place on December 10-17 online, the changed format has not influenced the usual high spirit of the event.

This year the focus of the discussions has been made on assessing the role of civil society in the COVID19 era across the EU Eastern and Southern Neighbourhoods and its impact on a number of themes, mainly: COVID19 and CSOs; Youth Empowerment; Gender Dynamics; Intercultural Dialogue; and Sustainable Development/Sustainable Cities. Each of the sessions was led by the experienced facilitators who encouraged active debate among the participants.

The outputs of each session will be developed into a policy report with recommendations.

The INS programme is available HERE.
