The values of the United Europe and Ukrainian society:
problems of correlation and mechanisms of transition

On 21 March and 27 June 2014 the European Union and Ukraine signed the political and economic sections of the Association Agreement with the EU.  On 18 December 2015 the European Commission published a report on the implementation of the Ukrainian Visa Liberalisation Action Plan. It has brought our country one step closer to the realization of its strategic goal – the EU integration. However, taking into account political, social and economic realities and the complexities of the public discourse, the Ukrainian society still does not have a clear answer to the question what is the essence of the European values, what Ukraine can offer to Europe and to the world, what European values, traditions and norms we seek to embrace.

NGO “Quadrivium” together with academics, experts and Euromaidan activists, initiates a project entitled “The values of the United Europe and Ukrainian society: problems of correlation and mechanisms of transition”. The project aims at promotion the values of the United Europe among the conformist-minded population of Ukraine, as well as at development the mechanisms for their transit.

The key stages of the project include the following:

  • Panel Discussion “The European Values and Ukraine: Myths and Realities” to be held in Mariupol (November 25, 2016) to demythologize and to further promote the values and principles of the United Europe among the Ukrainian society;
  • Winter School “The Values of the United Europe and the Ukrainian Society: Problems of Correlation and Mechanisms of Transition” to be held in Chernivtsi (February 21-25, 2017). During the programme the representatives of the academic and expert community, local activists and politicians together with young people from different regions of Ukraine are going to develop the bottom-up ways of transit of the European values and the practical mechanisms for their further implementation in Ukrainian social and political realities.
